Adoption and Foster Care

Most of us have a desire to know where we came from as part of our way of defining who we are today and where we belong in this world. The experience of being adopted or of being placed into foster care, or of not knowing one or both biological parents, can be confusing and even painful at times. Not only can this be a complex issue for the individual, it is an issue that impacts the entire family system, and often times in very different ways for each family member. If this is a topic that brings you or your family into therapy we will work together in exploring how this impacts your sense of self, sense of your family, understanding of your biology, and how you perceive your closest relationships.
